In the UK there is no obligation to wear masks in closed areas, such as supermarkets. Indeed, my impression is that most people don’t. On the other hand, it is almost impossible to actually get and see one’s doctor, because the doctors try to do almost EVERYTHING digitally.

 

I prefer the German system in which, wearing masks in shops is obligatory but the doctors don’t – in times of a pandemic – just opt out of seeing their patients.

 

Whilst whingeing about the NHS, I have just learned that due to a lack of glass vials for blood samples, the NHS is avoiding carrying out blood tests and postponing them if possible. Now they have also announced a two-week-delay in the delivery of flu jabs to the doctors’ practices. Boris Johnson’s England does not have enough lorry drivers...  

Boris Johnson’s gamble

With almost 70% of over-18-year-olds fully vaccinated, the UK is now dramatically relaxing its Covid restrictions.

Ethically, Johnson is on fairly safe ground, as everyone who wants to, can get vaccinated, and those who feel uncomfortable about the relaxation of regulations, can always decide to continue wearing masks and maintaining social distancing and other safety precautions. Other countries, if they so wish, can declare the UK as high-risk and restrict travel from and to it.

Will it work? Johnson has a long track record of reckless and deceitful performance. The UK does not really have a reliable person running the country. And this is a gamble. In this case, Johnson’s gamble depends on the ability of the country’s hospitals to cope with the to be expected increased number of Corona-caused hospitalisations.

The payoff – normalisation - would be huge. One must but hope that it does work.

The current girlfriend of the loudmouth, who was elected by the British to be their (our) prime-minister, has given birth to his sixth(?) child.  

I do not understand why this elitist playboy, who with his lies has manipulated just about enough Britons to vote pro-Brexit and to take Britain out of the EU, should be congratulated for anything – except possibly, for an unlikely resignation.

Protocol probably requires, that other politicians have to congratulate in such cases. It may be understandable, that his own minister of health, Matt Hancock, should sycophantly twitter his excitement and speak of ”a moment of unalloyed joy”. But why, in-god’s name, does the leader of the opposition, the new leader of the Labour party, Sir Keir Starmer, have to speak of “wonderful news”? What is so wonderful for the nation, that the man, whose irresponsible behaviour is also but not only exemplified by the fact the exact number of his in- and out-of-wedlock children is unknown, has just fathered yet another child?
