Netanyahu – Good Riddance

This text is written before Israel’s new government –a curious coalition of parties, who are united by only one objective, getting rid of Netanyahu – is sworn in. By the time you read this, Israel’s new prime minister will no longer be Netanyahu but the 49-year-old religious, ultra-right-winger Naftali Bennett.

Good riddance.

We should not forget that for the Palestinian people dominated and humiliated by Israel, Netanyahu’s removal will not bring an end to their suffering. The Islamist Ra’am party, the left-wing Meretz and the shrunken not-really-left-wing Israeli Labour party have joined in as enablers of Netanyahu’s removal. The majority of this coalition wants a greater Israel, wants to hold on to Palestinian land, wants Apartheid to continue.

The USA and the EU must not fall into the trap of supporting this government. Without real external pressure the occupation will not end.

Literary Lunch 😊

Had lunch with Friends in Baden-Baden. To my surprise and delight, they produced six copies of the new book SPRACHGEWALT, which they had ordered and picked up in their local bookstore and wanted signing.

Order your copies here or at your favourite bookstore.

Are (German)Greens good for you?

Ms. Baerbock, the Leader of Germany’s Green Party, wants to become her country’s next chancellor.

She’s young, attractive and has no real work experience. So, say an amazing number of Germans, let’s make her our Queen.  Not as irresponsible as making Trump US President, but ridiculous all the same.

For a while, Baerbock’s approval ratings soared, and it seemed that the Greens could become the senior coalition party in the next government. (The general elections are due on 26 September) Recently, her image and ratings have suffered after it turned out that she had somewhat polished her cv... She will in all likelihood build up her image again. But not becoming chancellor might even be in her own interest.

Impressionism in Russia

If you can make it, make haste and visit the Frieder Burda museum in Baden-Baden.

It is a wonderful IMPRESSIONISM IN RUSSIA exhibition. Sadly, the security person, who I asked whether he would wrap a couple of the paintings up for me, felt that it wasn’t his job’s worth.

If Berlin is more accessible for you: the exhibition will be on show at the Barberini Museum in Potsdam from the end of August to the 9th of January 2022.

Sheer joy!

75th

A wonderful hike in the Black Forest, followed by drinks in the garden for my 75th. birthday.
