Netanyahu – Good Riddance

This text is written before Israel’s new government –a curious coalition of parties, who are united by only one objective, getting rid of Netanyahu – is sworn in. By the time you read this, Israel’s new prime minister will no longer be Netanyahu but the 49-year-old religious, ultra-right-winger Naftali Bennett.

Good riddance.

We should not forget that for the Palestinian people dominated and humiliated by Israel, Netanyahu’s removal will not bring an end to their suffering. The Islamist Ra’am party, the left-wing Meretz and the shrunken not-really-left-wing Israeli Labour party have joined in as enablers of Netanyahu’s removal. The majority of this coalition wants a greater Israel, wants to hold on to Palestinian land, wants Apartheid to continue.

The USA and the EU must not fall into the trap of supporting this government. Without real external pressure the occupation will not end.
