Sissinghurst and the Vatican

Visiting Vita Sackville-West's Sissinghurst to enjoy the flowers in the magnificent gardens is like visiting the Vatican museum in order to enjoy the art.

In both places what you see is mainly hordes of people.

Should all those people not be somewhere else? working perhaps?

  1. One should not blame people who wish to enjoy beauty. Didn't you try to do the same when you were visiting Sissinghurst and the Vatican Museum?
The trouble is that there are too many old people on our globe who have nothing else to do.
Perhaps they should join the boat people, definitely without knives or other dangerous equipment, and write critical comments like you.

portrait of a marriage - nigel nicolson
